The Speaking of Gardening Symposium was first held in 1998. The vision of Hunter Stubbs (1969-2017), then the Director of Horticulture at Richmond Hill Inn, the first events were held at the inn. Stubbs’ vision was simple, and remains our mission today: Provide a two-day lecture style symposium based on sound horticultural principals for industry professionals and gardening enthusiasts.

Our speakers have traveled from all over the United States and Europe, as well as Japan for the opportunity to speak at SOG. They are authors, researchers, plant hunters, nursery owners, designers, architects, and professors. Their passion for plants, the environment, and sustainable horticulture is contagious. Attendees, in-state and out-of-state, leave more knowledgeable, passionate and excited about their gardening pursuits.
